Landscape designers and landscaping contractors have terms we use that we understand, but we realize that our clients don’t always speak the same language. That’s especially true with hardscaping, which is a relatively recent term that has entered into common (or not so common) speech.
First off, what is hardscaping? Hardscaping involves constructing either flat or raised surfaces out of materials such as concrete, pavers, bricks, wood, metal, stone, or other substances. Hardscaping is in contrast to softscaping, which is plant material (including grass, trees, and shrubs).
